History of Reiki

In 1850, after many years of searching and studying, MIKAO USUI, Monk in Kyoto (Japan), discovered in some sanskrit formulas and symbols in old Bhuddist Sutras the key of this healing methos and science of handling energy.
After fasting and meditating for 21 days on the holy mountain Kuriyama, Mikao Usui's healing channel was activated with the help of the spiritual brotherhood from the center of creation. Thus, he became the focus and the transmitter of this gift and energy, which he called REIKI.
This occurrence - together with many other manifestations from the center of creation - was meant for the benefit of all mankind, as support and preparation for the change of dimension.
So far, only few people or groups of people existed who had achieved similar gifts, since they were not publicly known. Those gifts were not accessible to the vast majority, because only through years of preparation and sacrifices could they be achieved. However, now was the time every person got the opportunity of direct access to the universal life energy. The REIKI channel exists in everybody and once activated it enables the channeling of the divine energy for all healing and growing processes.

Several years of intense practice followed until Miko Usi began to initiate disciples of this method. One of these was Dr. Jugivo Hyashi, who continued the tradition. He founded a private clinic in Kyoto where scientific studies of Reiki where realized. These studies still exist.
Mrs. Hawayo Tautata, an American of Japanese ancestory, came into the clinic for treatment. After she was healed she was initiated in Reiki and became Dr. Hyashi's successor in the Reiki tradition she carried out in the U.S.A. Out of this tradition developed two lines:
The A.I.R.A (American Reiki Association) founded 1980, and the ALLIANCE (American-Reiki-Association) founded 1982

After 1988, from these two lines many others derived who define and teach REIKI according to their awareness and experiences.

Mikao Usui received the different applications of the Reiki-channel, the initiations and the symbols, their application and meaning. He divided this system into different grades:

The first grade
is the activation (initiation) of the Reiki channel. The divine, healing, creative energy can then be channeled, intuitively or methodically, through hands-on personally or to any other being, plant or mineral.

The second grade
another initiation is required which enhances the frequency of the channel. The first three symbols (healing, creating mantras from the center of creation) and their meaning and different healing methods are taught and practiced:
· Mental healing of one's self and others. (The recognition and transformation of negative life patterns)
· The distance healing and the direct contact with one's own higher self and that of other persons or beings
· The contact and communication with masters of a different dimension, with teachers, angels etc…, with elements and the elementals of animals, plants, minerals, etc…

The third grade
is the Reiki master training and contains another initiation to further enhance the channel and the initiation in the fourth symbol. Through this, the master (teacher) is enabled to teach and initiate the first two grades.
